About Quantum Systems

Quantum Systems is building the next generation of autonomous aerial systems, with a focus on the Drone Port for fully autonomous launch, landing, charging, and mission readiness of UAV platforms. They specialize in the development, design, and production of small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS), integrating cutting-edge software capabilities like edge computing and real-time AI-powered data processing for clients in defense, security, and public sectors.

The Role: Software Engineer - Perception

As a Software Engineer - Perception, you will play a central role in developing the intelligence that allows the Drone Port and aircraft to interact seamlessly. This involves working on perception algorithms, control systems, embedded software, and sensor integration to create reliable autonomous behaviors that operate in real-world environments. You will collaborate closely with experts from Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Systems Engineering Flight Controls, Embedded Software, AI, and Flight Test to help shape one of the most advanced autonomous drone infrastructure products on the market.

Day to Day Mission:

  • Develop perception software for autonomous Drone Port operation.
  • Design and implement computer vision algorithms for precision landing, docking, and localisation.
  • Integrate cameras and additional perception sensors into the Drone Port software stack.
  • Develop software for sensor processing, calibration, and data synchronization.
  • Improve robustness of perception algorithms under varying environmental conditions.
  • Support the integration of perception components into the overall autonomy architecture.
  • Analyse test data and continuously improve perception performance based on field results.
  • Design, train, and optimize computer vision models for object detection, pose estimation, and related perception tasks.
  • Deploy models on GPU-enabled edge platforms.
  • Develop internal tools for testing, visualization, and debugging perception pipelines.
  • Collaborate closely with Robotics, Embedded, Mechanical, and Systems Engineering throughout the complete product development lifecycle.
  • Support flight and field testing of autonomous Drone Port capabilities.
  • Contribute to software architecture, code quality, and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to the technical growth of the robotics team.

What you bring to the team:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • First professional experience, internships or university projects in robotics, computer vision or autonomous systems.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Solid understanding of deep learning fundamentals (CNNs, transformers).
  • Hands-on experience developing object detection and pose estimation models.
  • Experience with PyTorch.
  • Experience with OpenCV or comparable computer vision frameworks.
  • Experience with scalable synthetic dataset workflows combining BlenderProc 3D scene rendering, precise ground-truth annotation, and state-of-the-art augmentation techniques.
  • Experience developing software on Linux.
  • Familiarity with Git and modern software development workflows.
  • Experience working with cameras and image processing pipelines.
  • Basic knowledge of ROS or ROS2 is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for autonomous systems and robotics.
  • Fluent English.
